A dad-of-seven who would "do anything for anyone" has died in hospital following a horror smash.

Alan Munroe had been riding a Honda motorbike which was involved in a crash with a blue Ford Focus on the East Lancashire Road. Emergency services were called to the scene last Thursday (July 27) and the 39-year-old was rushed to Aintree Hospital in a critical condition.

Police have now confirmed Alan, who raised money for a number of different causes including No More Knives, died on Tuesday (August 1). His family are being supported by specially trained officers and police are appealing for any witnesses.

His brother Andrew Munroe said Alan was a huge Wigan Warriors rugby fan who was a member of the No More Knives campaign. The 37-year-old said his brother was a 'boss singer' who had a 'huge presence' when entering a room.

He added: "He’s always got a joke up his sleeve, he’s funny, passionate about things and has a brilliant, sarcastic sense of humour.

"He has the biggest heart and would do absolutely anything for anyone. His family means the world to him."

The crash took place between 8.35pm and 8.45pm on the Manchester-bound carriageway of the East Lancs Road. Officers are especially keen to speak with the drivers of the following vehicles who have been identified as being in the area at the time of the collision:

A black Mercedes Vito or V class displaying a private hire badge at the rear, that was travelling towards Liverpool

A pale blue Ford Focus travelling towards St Helens

A silver Toyota Yaris travelling towards St Helens

A black or dark grey Seat Altea travelling towards St Helens.

Detective Sergeant Andy Roper, from the Matrix Serious Collision Investigation Unit at Merseyside Police, said: “Our sincere thoughts and condolences are with the family of the man who sadly died following this tragic incident. Specially trained Family Liaison Officers are supporting them at this time.

"I appeal to anyone who was travelling on either side of the East Lancashire Road in that area between 8:35pm and 8:45pm on Thursday (July 27), or anyone who has dash camera CCTV in their car, to make contact with our team. We can check if any footage will have captured the build up to this collision or the collision itself.

"Additionally, if you were driving in this area and witnessed any part of this incident, I would be grateful if you could please get in touch. Any information you can provide may be vital in our investigation to fully establish what has happened."
